Love, Joy, Peace...
History

The history of Full Gospel Tabernacle began during the summer of 1970 when Richard and Alice Gray felt the Lord’s call to Heyworth. Many obstacles appeared in the way, but the Lord gloriously removed each one. On November 11, 1970, we moved to our newly purchased house at 113 N. Buchanan Street. Services began that weekend at 103 E. Main Street in Heyworth with 8 people present.

Right from the start, interested individuals began coming to services to find out more about the Lord. Twice while we were located on Main Street, we remodeled to give ourselves more classroom and auditorium space. People were receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost and being baptized in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. From the start, several felt it wouldn’t be long before God would provide a permanent place for us to worship.

A big step was taken just 9 months after the church work was started, when the congregation voted to make definite plans to build. The lot upon which the first church building was constructed was on land donated by Bro. & Sis. Gray. Amazingly, on the first anniversary of the church, the congregation met in the newly constructed building. It was a miracle from God. Miracle after miracle can be ascribed to the Heyworth church. A few years later, the addition was built onto the original building.

And then in 1985, the congregation moved into our present building which seats nearly 300. Hundred and hundreds of people have passed through the doors of Full Gospel Tabernacle. Countless ones have been baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Several are in the ministry today from the church.  All glory be to God. The one characteristic of the church that is noteworthy, is it’s mission giving. Consistently we have sponsored over 70 missionaries from the church, not counting the ones individual families support. We have been number one in Illinois several times in Sheaves for Christ giving, and in the top giving churches nationwide more than once. Each month we give unselfishly to multitudes of needy organizations and outreach places. God has blessed the church over and over again because of it’s generous giving.

“If God be for us, who can be against us.”
